Red Steel

While Nintendo is pushing the marketing campaign for the Wii as an entertainment unit for those who are not gamers, they are most definetly not ignoring the core gamers that have made the industry what it is today. Red Steel is a first-person shooter developed solely to capitalize on the motion sensing controller, and along with Zelda, is built to satisfy these core gamers.

You must master the art of both sword fighting and shooting as you adventure through the Yakuza underground of Japan in search of your kidnapped fiance. There are a wide range of different weapons to uncover throughout your quest and you will likely find yourself using most of them to reach your goal. While the sight and aim using the wii-mote is fairly good, the demo version at E3 was fairly slow and unresponsive, but we expect the final version will wield a much improved responsiveness.

Playing through the game, it is evident that it has been designed specifically for the Wii. Not only is the control interface intuitive, the graphical elements have been maximized for the hardware available in the system.

Overall this is a very pretty game and after a slow start picking up the fresh new controls, the gameplay grows deeper and richer. This is not just one of many amongst the great Wii launch titles, it is one that promises to be fresh and enthralling and will surely take pride of place in your Wii collection.
